  • SC6 Advanced Numerical Techniques for LES and DNS of Turbulent Flows

After the M30 meeting a Scientific Course titled “Advanced Numerical Techniques for LES and DNS of Turbulent Flows” was organized (21-23 September 2022). The ESRs participated in lectures and excercises conducted by dr. Johan Larsson from University of Maryland, prof. Sergio Pirozzoli and dr. Mateo Berndardini from Sapienza Università di Roma and team from CIRA: Pietro Roncioni, Lugi Cutrone and Domenico Quagliarella. Thanks to all lecturers as well as prof. Pirozzoli and Antonio Schettino for putting the course together!

  • SC5 Advanced Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) measurements

SC5 Advanced Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) measurements

The fourth scientific course (SC5) “Advanced Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) measurements“ was organised after M24 meeting, on April 6th – 8th, 2022. There was an introductory lecture conducted by dr. Ferdinand Schrijer (TU Delft). Most of the training was practical excercises, during which the ESRs were supervised by dr. Ferdinand Schrijer and Alessandro D’Aguanno (TU Delft). In addition the lecture “The role of combustion in greening the future of aviation” was conducted by Dr. Arvind Gangoli Rao. Morevoer laboratories of TU Delft that were not part of the training excercises were visited by ESRs.

The ESRs learned and experimented with two measurement techniques – Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) and Schlieren (including Background Oriented Schlieren).

  • SC4 Turbulence Modelling for Unsteady Aerodynamic Flows with Shock Wave Boundary Layer Interaction

SC4 Turbulence Modelling for Unsteady Aerodynamic Flows with Shock Wave Boundary Layer Interaction

It has been an intensive week for TEAMAero ESRs, as the 4th scientific course was taking place. It was focused on Turbulence Modelling for Unsteady Aerodynamic Flows with SBLI and organised by prof. Marianna Braza from Toulouse INPI/Institut de Mécanique des Fluides de Toulouse – IMFT and dr. Flavien Billard from Dassault Aviation.
Big thanks to other presenters: PhD. Abderahmane MAROUF, Frédéric Chalot, prof. Yannick Hoarau and prof. Serge Gratton, who made the course interesting and useful!

  • SC3 Experimental Methods in Flow Field Diagnostics

SC3 Experimental Methods in Flow Field Diagnostics

The third scientific course (SC3) “Experimental Methods in Flow Field Diagnostics“ consisted of two parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part was organised online on Zoom platform, on November 8th – 10th, 2021. The lectures were conducted by prof Pierre Dupont, dr Sebastien Piponniau, dr Diogo Barros (AMU), dr Ferry Schrijer (TU Delft), prof Reynald Bur, dr François Nicolas (ONERA). The practical part was organized and conducted by prof. Pierre Dupont, dr Sebastien Piponniau, dr Lionel Larcheveque (AMU) in the laboratories of Aix Marseille University November 17th – 19th 2021. In order to increase ESR participation in the practical excercises, they were split into two groups, which were participating in the classes according to the provided schedule.

    Topics of the course:

    Particle Image Velocimetry

    Hot Wire Anemometry

Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV) measurement technique

Flow visualization and density related techniques

  • SC2 Recent Developments in Computational Fluid Dynamics

SC2 training was organized by team from University of Glasgow, under leadership of prof. George Barakos. The training took place online between August 31st and September 3rd 2021. The ESRs were listening to the lectures and preparing their own numerical codes during practical excercises.

    List of topics:

    Finite Volume Method

    Lattice Boltzmann Method

    Kinetic Flow Modelling/DSMC

    Hybrid Methods

    Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics

    Vortex Methods

    Additionally, 4 seminars were conducted:

Seminar 1: CFD Using Quantum Computers

    Seminar 2: Simulating Rotary Wings

Seminar 3: Non Linear Harmonic Method

    Seminar 4: Industrial Applications
